Monthly Events
Come to a meeting up to one hour before the program begins to socialize and enjoy member-donated snacks. After brief club business and announcements led by our club president, we turn our attention to the featured guest speaker. Meetings close with a raffle. Winners are selected at random and receive fun garden-related prizes.

Topic: Native Plant Ecosystems for Pollinators
Speaker: Ann M. Mason, Fairfax County Certified Master Gardener and Retired Science Policy Professional
Gardeners in Northern Virginia are challenged with hot muggy summers and clay soil. Nonetheless, the joy of gardening to see bees and other pollinators in the garden motivates us.
In this talk, Certified Master Gardener Ann Mason returns to the Falls Church Garden Club to present an overview of the factors to consider when approaching plant selection to create a garden ecosystem in which pollinators will want to call home. This talk complements and builds on her 2025 talk “Tips for Attracting Pollinators and Beneficial Insects to Your Garden.” Think of it as a “Part Two” to her fascinating previous presentation where we learned to appreciate pollinators in our garden: now you’ll learn more about better plant selection to analyze the plants you already have and think about future additions that would improve your garden ecosystem.
Ann M. Mason is a Fairfax County Certified Master Gardener who loves chatting with folks about many horticultural topics. Retired from her four-decade professional life as a science policy professional, Ann turns her training in biology and chemistry into working with Fairfax County Master Gardeners as a volunteer educator. As a fan of bees and bugs and the wonderful role they play in the ecosystem she is delighted to share her knowledge about what makes it a good habitat to attract these pollinators.
For those members who cannot attend in person, the meeting will be recorded and made available to members for viewing at their convenience.
